Research integrity

iThenticate

Similarity checking from the manuscript Details tab. Run it at any point during review, and the report comes back to the same place.

IntegrationYour own subscriptionithenticate.com

Plagiarism detection that measures how much of a submitted manuscript repeats text already published elsewhere. It is the similarity checker most scholarly publishers already hold a licence for.

What PeerPath does with it

An iThenticate box appears on the Details tab of every manuscript. Pick a document, send it, and the similarity report comes back to that same box for your editorial staff to open. Nobody leaves the manuscript to run a check, and nobody has to file the result anywhere.

Where it sits in the workflow

Anywhere you want it. A check can be run at any point during review, on any manuscript, as many times as you need. It is not pinned to a stage, so a second check after a revision costs nothing but a click.

Setting it up

1Hold or take out an iThenticate subscription directly with them.
2Tell PeerPath support you want the connection switched on.
3We activate the API, and the box appears on every Details tab.

Whether it is right for you

Worth it if
  • Similarity is checked as policy rather than on suspicion
  • You already hold an iThenticate licence, or your publisher does
  • Your editors want the result on the manuscript, not in a separate tool
Probably not if
  • You check only occasionally. Compilatio covers the same ground.
  • Your concern is paper mills rather than text overlap. That is STM Integrity Hub.
  • You want authors to self check before submitting. That is Penelope.
